Timothy R. Murphy '88

Tim Murphy is the President and CEO of Beacon Health Strategies, a NCQA and URAC accredited behavioral health managed care company providing care coordination and utilization review services to health plans and state governments on behalf of approximately three million Medicaid, Medicare and Commercial members. Beacon Health Strategies specializes in the integration of care plans for individuals with both physical and behavioral conditions. Based in Massachusetts, the company employs 330 people and is privately held.

Prior to joining Beacon Health Strategies, Tim served as the Secretary of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services in Massachusetts from 2005 to 2007. In this capacity, he oversaw a $12.0 billion budget and approximately 22,000 employees that delivered programs and services through 15 state agencies to over one million Massachusetts residents. Tim’s signature accomplishment during his tenure was the development, passage, and initial implementation of the landmark Massachusetts health care reform law. He was the principal architect of Governor Mitt Romney’s pioneering approach to enable each Massachusetts resident the opportunity to purchase affordable health insurance and improve the value of the health care delivery system.

Prior becoming Secretary, Tim was as a principal advisor to Governor Romney and served as his Director of Policy. Tim helped craft and guide the Governor’s agenda on tax, fiscal and debt policies, economic development strategies, transportation planning, and health care.

Prior to working in the Romney Administration, Tim was a Vice President in the Investment Banking Division at JP Morgan advising and raising capital for both corporations and non-for-profit institutions. He worked with premier private equity firms on numerous leveraged buy-out transactions.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Arts from Merrimack College, where he serves as a Trustee, and a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University.
