Egg Toss Wins Student a $60K Scholarship
High school senior James Vayanos of North Andover, MA recently won a $60,000 Merrimack College scholarship by building the best egg flinging catapult.
James beat out over 20 other student catapulters by tossing his egg closest to the target – a frying pan sitting 48 feet away. His egg landed only seven inches from the center of the pan.
James will receive $15,000 per year (max. four years) to study civil engineering at Merrimack College.
Catapult contest participants designed and built a Trebuchet-style catapult, which was put to the test at Merrimack College’s ThinkFEST - a festival-style hands-on engineering, science, and technology event for 6-12 grade students.
