Crisis Assessment/Triage

Counselors are available to Merrimack students, faculty, and staff for mental health crisis management, intervention, or consultation. 

For students: Daily Crisis Hour 

Monday - Friday, 1:00pm - 2:00pm 

During the academic calendar, Monday – Friday, 1:00pm – 2:00pm is held to triage crisis or urgent matters.  If the crisis appointment hour has passed or is not available, Hamel clinicians are consulted to assess the situation and respond appropriately.  

Triage and Consultation

During business hours, counselors may be accessed for crisis intervention or consultation by calling the main number 978-837-5441. When you call, you will be asked a series of questions to triage the situation appropriately - including if you need speak with a counselor immediately, within a certain time frame, or are able to receive a call back before the end of the business day. Any information that can be shared about the situation is helpful to determine appropriate and effective response. A Crisis Hour (1:00-2:00pm) is also offered in order for students in crisis to be evaluated at Hamel. 

Counselor-On-Call: After Hours

After regular business hours, on weekends, and on holidays, the counselor-on-call is accessible to triage emergent crisis situations by phone. The counselor is accessed by speaking with a Residence Life staff member or by calling Merrimack College Police Services 978-837-5555 or 978-837-5911. 

Counseling appointments are available Monday - Friday starting at 9:00am, last appointment time 4:00pm. Crisis Hour Monday - Friday, 1:00 - 2:00pm.
