Assistant Director of Accessibility Services

Position Overview:  The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Accessibility Services and works in close collaboration with the staff of Academic Success, the faculty, and campus colleagues. The Assistant Director is primarily responsible for working with registered students with visual impairments/blindness, hearing impairments/deafness, and physical limitations and their faculty. The Assistant Director will also oversee the college’s Testing Center and provide academic counseling, advocacy, and the referrals to students who have documented disabilities. 


  • Key contact and liaison for our current students with highly specific needs including visual impairments/blindness, hearing impairments/deafness, and physical limitations by making all course materials accessible and coordinating all aspects of their campus-life through relationships with their faculty, families, campus partners, outside resources, and student workers. 
  • Manage the Testing Center by overseeing the process of students requesting and taking tests in the center, coordinating with student workers, communicating with faculty, and maintaining records.
  • Supervise student workers in formatting of materials and maintaining administrative aspects of the office.
  • Provide the students registered with disabilities with advising and counseling, including organization/study skills, advocacy, and referrals needed for academic success. Review documentation for the purposes of determining appropriate, reasonable accommodations. Assist in coordinating accommodations between the faculty, student, and the office. 
  • Address current and new student parent concerns, meet with and communicate with outside agencies when necessary. Participate in new student orientation and other programs as needed 
  • Plan, implement, and coordinate the education of the faculty and the college community at large with an effective understanding of the policies and procedures of the College’s academic services for students with disabilities. 
  • Will maintain responsibility for reporting on campus-wide statistics and sustain partnerships with key constituents on campus to continue to increase the overall accessibility of physical spaces, technologies, universal design, and curriculum. 
  • Introduce and train students in adaptive technologies to strengthen their access.  
  • In Director’s absence will be able maintain all aspects of the workflow of the office. Will work closely with Director on office long-term strategizing and development of projects and tasks. 


  • Master’s degree and professional experience in a field relevant to the delivery of support services to disabled students. 
  • Experience delivering academic support to college level students is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of previous experience working in Disability/Accessibility services at the college level.
  • A demonstrated ability to identify disabilities affecting college-age students with knowledge and experience in interpreting diagnostic assessments for the purpose of determining appropriate accommodations. 
  • Experience working with blind students and with a Testing Center preferred.
  • The Assistant Director must possess a professional working knowledge of the disabilities affecting college-age students along with knowledge and experience in diagnostic assessments for the purpose of determining appropriate accommodations.
  • Must possess a solid level of knowledge of campus department partners for consultation and referrals and of academic curriculum to give general academic advice and make referrals.
  • Must possess excellent human relations, problem-solving, accountability, and excellent written, oral, and technological communication skills.
