Mack Gives Back
Honoring those who serve by serving others
Reverend Raymond Dlugos, O.S.A., and the Division of Mission and Student Affairs established a day of service called Mack Gives Back Day. This community-wide event takes place each November as a way to commemorate two days of great importance in the College’s history: Veterans Day and St. Augustine’s birthday. Merrimack was founded in 1947 by the Order of St. Augustine to provide educational opportunities to local soldiers returning home from World War II so it is a fitting tradition that Mack Gives Back Day is “honoring those who have served by serving others.”
Mack Gives Back 2016 reached farther and wider than ever before as our buses full of Warriors went to service locations such as IMEC in North Andover, Food for Children in Manchester, The Wish Project in Lowell, Emmaus House in Haverhill, Challenge Unlimited at Ironstone Farm in Andover, as well as the YMCA of Lowell, Bellevue Cemetery, Evergreen Cemetery, and Project Home Again in Lawrence. The Boston, Andover, North Andover, Lawrence, Middleton, Haverhill, North Reading, Salem, and Manchester Departments of Public Works also enlisted the help of MGB volunteers to make our local and nearby communities more livable and enjoyable for all.
Merrimack College’s Day of Service, Mack Gives Back, is estimated to have approximately 1,100 people participate on Saturday November 4, 2017. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends from all over volunteer on Mack Gives Back to give back to their local communities.

Volunteer groups are assigned to service sites by the amount of people in their group. Students will find out where their service location is the week of Mack Gives Back. Merrimack College provides bus transportation from the college to all of the service locations. On the day of Mack Gives Back students, employees, alumni, and friends will head to the Sakowich Campus Center by 7:30am. Volunteers will need to pick up their name tag, get a Mack Gives Back T-shirt, and congregate with their volunteer group beneath their bus number. The numbers of the buses will be on posters in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR). Students that are participating for FYE credit need to make sure they bring their Mack Cards with them to Mack Gives Back.
