Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Journals

CETL encourages educators to consider contributing to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). Below are some SoTL journals that accept submissions.

 

Academe: http://www.aaup.org/reports-and-publications/academe - bimonthly magazine of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) that analyzes higher education current issues.

Academic Exchange Quarterly: http://www.rapidintellect.com/AEQweb/ - an independent, double-blind-peer reviewed journal that publishes research, commentary, and other manuscripts that contribute to effective instruction and learning

Active Learning in Higher Education:http://alh.sagepub.com/ - an international, peer reviewed publication for all those who teach and support learning in higher education and those who undertake or use research into effective learning, teaching and assessment in universities and colleges.

Effective Teaching:http://www.uncw.edu/cte/et/ – bi-annual online peer reviewed journal dedicated to teaching excellence in higher education.

Feminist Teacher:http://www.press.uillinois.edu/journals/ft.html - provides discussions of such topics as multiculturalism, interdisciplinarity, and distance education within a feminist context.

Innovations in Education and Teaching International:http://www.tandfonline.com/toc/riie20/current - journal of the Staff and Educational Development Association, focusing on innovation in higher education through staff and educational development.

Insight: A Journal of Scholarly Teaching: http://www.insightjournal.net/ - a scholarly publication that highlights the work of postsecondary faculty. It is a refereed scholarly journal published annually by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) at Park University.

Instructional Science: http://www.springerlink.com/content/102905/ - journal focuses on publishing original empirical research on learning by people of all ages, in all areas of curriculum, and in informal and formal learning contexts.

Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-based Learning:http://www.edci.purdue.edu/ijpbl/ - promotes a deeper understanding of the nature, theory, and practice of the instructional process and resultant learning. Published papers represent a variety of perspectives from the learning sciences and cover learning by people of all ages, in all areas of the curriculum, and in informal and formal learning contexts.

International Journal for Academic Developmenthttp://www.tandfonline.com/ijad - a journal published four times a year focusing on the theory and practice of educational development in higher education internationally.

International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning http://www.georgiasouthern.edu/ijsotl/ - The IJ-SoTL is an open, peer-reviewed, international electronic journal published twice a year by the Center for Excellence in Teaching at Georgia Southern University to be an international vehicle for articles, essays, and discussions about the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) and its applications in higher/tertiary education today. All submissions undergo a double-blind peer-review process.

Journal of Classroom Interaction:  http://www.jciuh.org/ -  a semi-annual publication devoted to empirical investigations and theoretical papers dealing with observation techniques, research on student and teacher behavior, and other issues relevant to the domain of classroom interaction.

Journal of General Education http://www.psupress.org/journals/jnls_jge.html  - devoted to the ideas and ideals of scholarship that enlighten the understanding of curriculum that reaches beyond disciplinary and professional concentrations to provide an undergraduate educational commons. The journal’s research, essays, forums and reviews engage academic communities and others in deliberations about general education experiments and innovation, as well as considerations of general education assessment, history, philosophy and theoretical perspective.

Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning: http://www.iupui.edu/~josotl/ -a forum for the dissemination of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in higher education for the community of teacher-scholars. Our peer reviewed Journal promotes SoTL investigations that are theory-based and supported by evidence. JoSoTL’s objective is to publish articles that promote effective practices in teaching and learning and add to the knowledge base.

Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (LATHE): http://insight.glos.ac.uk/tli/resources/lathe/Pages/default.aspx - published in the United Kingdom, LATHE is an interdisciplinary refereed journal providing an accessible international forum for scholarly debate related to learning, teaching and assessment in higher education. MBE provides a forum for the accessible presentation of basic and applied research on learning and development, including analyses from biology, cognitive science, and education.

Facilitates the multi-disciplinary exchange of ideas, actions, and results of innovative and professional practice in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

International Journal of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning: http://www.springer.com/education+%26+language/learning+%26+instruction/journal/11412?cm_mmc=sgw-_-ps-_-journal-_-11412 –  fosters a deep understanding of the nature, theory, and practice of computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL). The journal serves as a forum for experts from such disciplines as education, computer science, information technology, psychology, communications, linguistics, anthropology, sociology, and business. Articles investigate how to design the technological settings for collaboration and how people learn in the context of collaborative activity.
