Dr. Russell Mayer
Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
As Vice President for Planning, Institutional Research, and Assessment (PIRA), Dr. Russell Mayer leads efforts to engage the constituents of the college in data driven decision-making, and conducts research on the institution and the external environment that aids in strategic planning and decision making.
Mayer received his B.A. with High Honors from Wesleyan University and his PhD from the University of Michigan.
Before assuming leadership of PIRA, Mayer served as Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Associate Dean of Liberal Arts, and Faculty Senate President. He came to Merrimack College in 1997 as a member of the faculty and holds the rank of Professor of Political Science. His scholarly research and teaching focuses on campaign and elections, polling and public opinion and public policy. He has also published several articles and book chapter on promoting civic engagement among young people.
