The Writing Center

The Merrimack College Writing Center assists writers at all levels of ability and promotes writing as a way of enhancing teaching and learning throughout the college. In the Augustinian spirit of concern for the intellectual development of the individual, the Writing Center’s primary goal is to enable writers to develop their abilities through individualized conferencing with knowledgeable peers and professionals who are themselves writers.

What can the Writing Center do for you?

The Writing Center can help you to grow more independent and confident in your academic, personal, and professional writing. You can get help in such areas as:

**        choosing topics
**        organizing writing projects
**        solving specific writing problems, 
                from getting started to editing/proofreading
**        developing effective revision strategies
**        learning to use critical reading as a means to 
                perceptive writing
**        developing research abilities
**        creating your individual writing style
**        managing group writing projects
**        developing Power Point presentations
**        developing skills in written English 
                if English is not your first language.

What resources can be found in the Writing Center?

**        guides for grammar and usage
**        handbooks for writing in different disciplines
**        guides for non-native English speakers
**        computers for conducting electronic research

The Writing Center will open for the semester on Sunday, September 14 at 6 PM.  If you need assistance before that time, please either drop in to the Center between 11 and 3 Monday through Thursday, or e-mail Prof. Cain or Prof. Nielsen-Dube for an appointment.
