Kathleen Shine Cain, Ph.D., Director

Kathleen has been involved in writing center work for over twenty-five years, and has served on the Executive Boards of the National Writing Centers Association and the Northeast Writing Centers Association. She has presented sessions at regional, national, and international writing center conferences, often accompanied by Merrimack peer tutors. She spent the 2005-2006 academic year in Belfast, Northern Ireland, helping to establish a Writing Centre at St. Mary’s University College. Also a Professor of Writing in the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences, Kathleen teaches Introduction to College Writing, Introduction to Composition Studies, Private and Public Writing from the Civil War Era, Writing the Personal Memoir, and Writing for Social Change. Her research interests include international/intercultural communication among writing programs and writing centers, social justice pedagogies, and memoir.

Kathryn Nielsen-Dube, Doctoral Candidate, Associate Director

Kathryn is a member of the Communication Arts and Sciences Department and works as the second language writing specialist in the Writing Center and Writing Intensive (WI) program. Kathryn teaches College Writing in face to face and blended formats, Composition Theory, Cross/Intercultural Interactions, and Special Topics in Rhetoric: Second Language Writing - all using technology and WI formats. She has presented workshops and papers at interdisciplinary international, national, and regional conferences. Kathryn is professionally affiliated with Conference on College Composition and Communication, the National Council of Teachers of English, the International Writing Centers Association, and the Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, serves as chair to the Northeast Writing Center Association and as an editor for the Writing Center Journal. Kathryn's research interests include second language writing, transformative learning theory, and critical and liberatory education.
