Accessibility Services

For Prospective and Newly Admitted Students

I would like to meet with you before I decide to apply or formally admit with Merrimack. Is this possible?

Yes, we would love to talk with you regarding the services that Merrimack provides, our campus climate, and to answer questions you have. This is a great opportunity to get the feel for this school and how it may meet your needs. We encourage you to email accessibilityservices@merrimack.edu or call 978-837-5278 to set up a phone call or a visit. While we are always excited to talk with you, some points in the semester are extremely busy as we assist with the needs of our current students. In such circumstances, we may ask you to speak with us at a later date.

I am coming to an open house and/or an Admitted Student Day, can I meet with you?

Open houses and Admitted Students Days are wonderful ways to get a big picture view of Merrimack. We highly encourage you to come to see us, introduce yourself and get a feel for our office. However, these events are drop-in and do not offer privacy or the timing to have a complete conversation about your needs. We encourage you to email accessibilityservices@merrimack.edu or call 978-837-5278 to set up a phone call or a visit at an alternate time.

Should I send in my documentation with my admission packet?

We are only able to consider your documentation once you have been formally admitted and then deposited as a Merrimack student. The Admission Office cannot use disability information in forming an admittance decision, and we cannot be held responsible for any documentation that arrives at our office before you are a matriculated student.

I have deposited, should I send documentation directly to your office?

Yes, the sooner the better. The best method to get us your documentation is to fill out the “Request for Accommodations Form” available on our site and attach your documentation electronically. For more information for requesting accommodations and documentation requirements, please visit this page: Requesting Accommodations.

When would I be able to set up an intake meeting?

Most meetings for incoming, newly deposited students, occur over the summer. Once we have your Academic Accommodation Request and Documentation we will reach out to schedule an appointment. Typically these meetings begin in June and can be scheduled up through the first few weeks of the Fall semester.

Is Orientation a good time to arrange a meeting?

Typically we find that students are exceptionally busy with Orientation activities. Should you be in town a day before or after orientation, we can likely meet then. Otherwise, we’re available throughout the summer and by phone/skype if you are not local.

Will Merrimack be able to accommodate my very specific needs?

Merrimack prides itself on its student-centered approach. The best way to determine if your needs can be reasonably accommodated is to start talking with us early on. This gives you, and us, an opportunity to consider your needs closely and determine what resources may be reasonable and necessary. This conversation will help to determine reasonable accommodations and limitations based on the transition from high school to college.
