Accounting

Alyssa Rollins

The staff and opportunities provided by Merrimack College have shaped me into the young business professional that I desired to become when I submitted my application to the business school in 2009. Merrimack introduced me to the world of business and set me on the right path towards a successful career.

During my sophomore year, the business school created the Alumni Mentor Program where I was introduced to a Partner of Gray, Gray, and Gray, a CPA firm in Westwood, MA. He invited me to multiple networking events and tax conferences which allowed me to learn about the real world side of the industry and gave me confidence that I had chosen the right career path. That Summer, I joined Luca, DeBlasio & Co. as an accounting intern. These opportunities kept me on track for my desire to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

In just two quick years I was able to make the most of all that Merrimack College has to offer. I learned practical knowledge in the classroom, took advantage of extracurricular opportunities, and acquired the confidence to pursue accounting. I then joined Sigma Iota Epsilon (SIE), the National Honorary and Professional Management Fraternity, as Co-President my junior year. Being a part of SIE has taught me the integral parts of the science of management such as organization, communication, collaboration, and cooperation. All of the above are strong reasons why I was able to earn back to back Summer internships with one of The Big Four accounting firms, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

Recently I was extended a full-time offer to join PwC’s tax team once I complete my 150 credits for eligibility to sit for the CPA Exams. To receive those credits, I have chosen Merrimack’s Master of Science in Management program because I want Merrimack College to continue what they’ve been doing for me since my freshmen year; providing me with a quality education full of opportunities. The established trust and respect I have for the Girard School of Business and International Commerce made the decision easy, and I cannot wait to start.
