When I first came to Merrimack, I knew only a handful of people and still wasn’t sure whether I wanted to major in accounting or finance. Nearly a year later, so much has changed.
College is a time to be bold and learn more about yourself. I decided at the first activities fair of the year to join the Accounting Club and the Finance Club; perhaps the best decision I made all year. I became friends with members in both clubs and eventually was picked to be President of the Accounting Club for the 2013-2014 academic year.
Later during the first semester, I interviewed for a job at Sodexo and got my first job working in the Merrimack cafeteria. I started in February and worked a minimum of 12 hours a week until the end of the year. I gained some experience and got to work with some amazing people.
The most important part of the year, however, was my schoolwork. There is no substitute for hard work and dedication. With that in mind, I am proud to say I ended my freshman year with a 3.8 GPA. Looking back, it has been an incredible year, full of different learning experiences. I’m excited for my remaining years at Merrimack, and can’t wait to explore the field of Accounting.
