MATTHEW CHIROKAS’ Internship at Century Capital

For Matthew Chirokas ’15, his internship at Century Capital is providing him with “…a broader focus and understanding of the Private Equity industry.  I am gaining experience with direct investing in companies to construct individual funds.”

Chirokas’ responsibilities have included research projects on companies in niche sub-sectors within the insurance and financial services industries.  These projects have allowed him to work closely with Century’s associates to source new investments as they start targeting companies in these sectors.

In addition to honing his skills on the job, Chirokas has taken initiative to get additional training that will make him more valuable to future employers, and has already helped him prove his worth as an intern at Century Capital.  Chirokas says, “I decided to attend an online training session for financial software I use (at Century) and as a result, I was able to run a process for the exact service we were searching for.  It was extremely gratifying to see the associate’s excitement with the information I provided, and I can take pride in knowing I produced tangible results for the firm.”

This internship, which was made possible by Merrimack alum and Century Capital Partner, Stephen Marquardt ’00, is not his first.  Chirokas previously interned at HarbourVest Partners, a Boston-based Private Equity firm.  For Chirokas, the internships have “…built a stronger picture of financial systems and given me knowledge and understanding of the processes and daily operations that play a pivotal role in economic growth.”
