Computer Modules Requirement
Computer Challenge Exam Fall 2012
All business majors and minors are required to complete Computer Applications Training unless they have been waived out of the courses by transferring in a comparable course.
The Computer Applications Challenge exam will be given to all business majors and business minors to “test out” of the Business Computer Applications Training Modules. This placement exam is mandatory. Students can only take the challenge exam once.
The exam is given on the first or second Friday of the semester during a scheduled class time. The date for the Challenge Exam will be listed on the BUS1100 Syllabus. A SIMNET card is bundled with the BUS1100 textbook. If a student buys a used textbook, they can buy a SIMNET card online at http://merrimack.simnetonline.com.
The placement exam is a hands-on exam that will consist of three parts: Excel, Access and Word. Each module is treated separately. To “test out” of the individual modules, students will have to obtain a minimum grade of 73% on each module.
If a student receives a grade of 72% or less on one or more of the placement exam modules, then she/he will be required to take an on-line non-credit seminar on those modules during the up-coming semester.
Students will not be allowed to take the makeup exam unless they have completed the lessons for the modules they failed.
Students must successfully pass these modules with a minimum grade of 73% on each module in order to register for any additional courses within the business core curriculum.
The dates for these exams will be listed in the BUS1100W syllabus. They will receive notification from Professor Sharon Testa on which modules they did not pass and which modules they are required to retake.
Students will be required to use the following links to logon to SIMNET and Blackboard.
