My name is Shane Simbeck. In September, I will be entering my senior year of undergraduate studies at Merrimack College. I am majoring in business with concentrations in Finance and Sports Management. I am a veteran, having served four years active duty in the United States Coast Guard. I am currently attending Merrimack College with financial coverage under the Post 9/11 GI Bill. I reside in Bradford with my wife and two children. As a commuting student, I have found Merrimack to be a very supportive environment.
For most students, it is important to realize that undergraduate studies are the foundation upon which most professionals and scholars strive to further cultivate themselves. For me, an undergraduate degree is only the beginning of my academic and professional journey. Merrimack is providing me with a solid foundation in undergraduate studies which will accompany me in my graduate and professional endeavors. The business, finance and sports management courses I have taken at Merrimack will be a significant asset to me when applying for positions of interest.
Through Financial Analysis (FIN3315) with ProfessorPapazian, students were given the ability to gain relevant financial market experience. The program StockTrack allows students to simulate live market trading with artificial funds. I feel as though FIN3315 greatly bolstered my financial knowledge. Through this course and Advanced Investments students are able to take what they learn about investment vehicles including but not limited to: derivatives, foreign exchange and going short and long equities and implement their own creative approaches and strategies with simulated trading.
The relevant course work I have endured has led directly to me earning an internship this summer as a Business Analyst at SunGard Financial Systems. This internship will allow me to fine tune my business and finance skills while also adding significant credentials to my resume. I am confident that upon graduation, Merrimack College will have provided me with the necessary skills to achieve my career goals.
