Class of 2008
International Business and French
Rebekah Poteat has what she defines as an “obsession” with traveling. The 2008 Merrimack grad (international business and French major) spent a semester in France, visited London and Amsterdam, and spent part of a summer in Thailand with Habitat for Humanity.
“It is such an amazing experience and I learned so much about different cultures. You also get to know yourself much better.” While studying abroad in Angers, France, all of Rebekah’s classes were conducted in French and she shared courses with students from all over the world. Regardless of native language, they all spoke French to each other.
As an international business major at Merrimack, Rebekah understands how connected the world has become. “International business is so important, it’s everywhere. I am much more global now than I used to be and I know there are plenty of opportunities for jobs in international business.”
Rebekah’s traveling experiences have also encouraged her to seek out visiting international students on the Merrimack campus in order to learn more about their backgrounds. “I love getting different perspectives and learning about other religious views.”
In an effort to encourage other students to study abroad, Rebekah assisted with Merrimack’s study abroad info sessions. She would like to eventually work in an international education capacity so she can help others gain an overseas experience.
