Class of 2012
Management, Communications minor
My name is Lydia Liu. I am a member of the class of 2012 with a major in Business Management and a minor in Communication. Although, I am from Methuen, Massachusetts, which is about 15 minutes from North Andover, I have lived on campus for all three years. In the spring of 2011 I will be studying abroad in Florence, Italy for the semester.
The Girard School of Business and International Commerce has really stressed upon team dynamics. In many of my classes, I collaborate with my classmates. By working in groups, I have learned how to adapt to different situations and it helps everyone be more creative with one another. The small class sizes and professors have made the classes more personable. The professors take the time to get to know each student and are more than willingly to help students. I feel the sense of community at Merrimack College inside and outside of the classroom.
The knowledge that I have gained from the courses I have taken has applied to many areas in the real world. I have had an internship with Liberty Mutual for two years, and I have applied the knowledge I learned. For example, I have learned about lean management in my World-Class Operations course and the following summer I completed a project at work on this topic. I have also taken Law and Ethics and the knowledge I learned applied to me when I attended trials, arbitrations, and mediations. It is great to know that topics we learn in class are connected to the work force.
Overall, my experiences at Merrimack College have helped me grow as a person. Merrimack College offers so much from clubs to curriculum. I have met many great friends and faculty that has made a positive impact on my life. The Girard School of Business has prepared me for the future and has given me confidence to succeed in the real world.
