My name is Melissa Unis and I am currently a Junior at Merrimack College in the graduating class of 2010. I am enrolled in the Girard School of Business and International Commerce as a Business Administration Major with a concentration in Management. In addition, I am minoring in Spanish. Although, I am from Gloucester, Massachusetts, which is approximately 45 minutes from North Andover, I have lived on campus for all three years that I have been enrolled in the college.
Merrimack College and, more specifically, the Girard School of Business have been great in preparing me for the business world that I will enter upon graduation. The school has provided me with a wide variety of interesting and informative classes that also reflect current trends in business management, such as classes on E-Business and Management Information Systems. Also, the Business School has enabled me to improve my communication and decision making skills, which are key elements of effective management.
Class size has been one of the most appealing features of the Business School, as the small numbers allow for increased interaction between the students and the professors. The professors are all very friendly and are helpful both inside and outside of class. The faculty also acts as a great network for students with the business world, as they all have had vast amounts of experience in their fields. One professor actually helped a classmate of mine and I get an internship working with him for a summer.
Overall, I feel as though the Girard School of Business has and will continue to prepare me to be an effective and successful manager when I enter the business world. Furthermore, I have enjoyed all of my interactions with the Management department’s faculty and students throughout my time at Merrimack College.
