Marketing

Maria Russo

My name is Maria Russo and I am a class of 2014 undergraduate student. I am majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and minoring in Communications. My interest in business began during my Senior year at Burlington High School where I took my first Marketing class and was nominated as the Secretary of DECA, our school’s marketing club.

This year I joined The O’Brien Center for Student Success, which is Merrimack’s Career Services office. I was their Marketing and Communications Intern. While holding this position I was responsible for posting to multiple channels of social media daily, planning, executing, and attending multiple O’Brien Center events. I also aided in the rebranding of the center by developing an awareness among my fellow students about the O’Brien Center and all that it has to offer.

While holding this position, I found that I was also very passionate about event planning. I was able to take this passion and turn it into my new position. I am currently working as the Event Planning Intern for the O’Brien Center. In this position I am responsible for planning, facilitating, and executing all major career service events. For example I planned the annual career fair where I was responsible for facilitating over 150 employers and 300 students. I also was responsible for planning and executing Merrimack’s Etiquette Dinner, which was a sit down meal for over 70 students, faculty, and staff.

Next semester I was offered the Communications and Event Senior Intern position. In this new position, I will be responsible for my regular Event Planning and Marketing duties, as well as managing other undergraduate interns that will be working in the positions I previously held.

While taking courses at Merrimack and Interning at The O’Brien Center, I am also the member at large for Merrimack’s collegiate chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) and an executive member of our Student Government Association board. Before interning for the O’Brien center I was the Global Marketing intern for an IT Company called Ipswitch, Inc. located in Lexington Massachusetts. While in this position I learned quality skills and contributed to various marketing projects and made preparations for numerous trade shows.

This summer I am interning at a company called Media Results located in Wilmington Massachusetts. I will graduate in spring 2014. I believe that attending Merrimack College has truly been a great growing experience for me. Through the multiple experiences I have gained I was able to meet many new people and expand my personal network, improve my communication and public speaking skills, and become comfortable in a leadership role. I am very thankful for all of the opportunities and support that Merrimack has provided for me and I can not wait to continue this success in my future endeavors.
