Sport Management

Patrick Lenihan

My name is Patrick Lenihan. I will be part of the Graduating Class of 2015, majoring in Business with a concentration in Sports Management. I have lived on campus so far for my first two years of enrollment.

The Girard School of Business and International Commerce is growing. Currently there are about 80 students in the Sports Management Department and that number continues to grow every year. The ability to obtain a business degree while concentrating in Sports Management is one of the strongest features the School of Business has to offer. The Business degree gives you a great well-rounded education in general business concepts while the professors in the Sports Management Department offer great insight and provide you with the skills you will need to be successful in that area. The Sports Management Department stresses networking to all of its students as success will come from knowing people and networking properly. Additionally, having small class sizes gives students the ability to get to know their professors very well. We get the opportunity to network and meet current professionals in our field about once a semester when we are able to host guest speakers. The Sports Management Department will continue to grow and stride to make connections with all of the local sports teams and companies in the sports industry and sports world.

The knowledge that I have received from the professors has allowed me to succeed in the sports field already. In the summer of 2013 I interned for The Jimmy Fund, a Division of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, in their 60th year as partners with the Boston Red Sox. I will take part in their Annual Fantasy Day at Fenway Park and the Jimmy Fund Radio Telethon. For the fall semester I hope to have an additional internship for which I am currently applying. The experience and success that I achieve through these internships, I owe to the sports management program.

Merrimack has provided me with the tools and skills to help me succeed in my college and post-college career. Merrimack is the place for any student who wants to be successful in the sports industry.
