Application Components

Applications are only reviewed by the Admissions Committee once complete. To expedite the application processing time, applicants are encouraged to submit all mailed materials to the Graduate Program office in one envelope.  Admission to the Graduate Program is on a rolling basis.

A complete application to the graduate program of the School of Education includes:

  1. Completed application
    Click here for the online application. Applicants are encouraged to use the online form, but a paper application form may be downloaded here. (PDF)
  2. Official transcripts
     Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended are required. Transcripts must show course titles, dates, and grades. Additionally, transcripts for programs for which a degree was earned must show a degree conferral. Degree conferrals must include the name of the degree conferred, the month and year the degree was conferred, and the name of the institution conferring the degree.  Official transcripts must be submitted in envelopes sealed by the institution’s registrar. Transcripts must be original documents bearing the institutional seal and signature of the institution’s registrar. Transcripts may be mailed directly to the Graduate Program office or to the applicant to be included with other mailed materials.
  3. Resume
     Applicants are encouraged to submit a resume or curriculum vitae (CV). Your resume or CV should contain a summary of relevant job experience and education. You may also include relevant activities, awards, and interests. (Can be submitted through the online application, or mailed in.)
  4. Personal statement
     All applicants are required to submit a personal statement (500 word maximum). The statement should explain your interest in education and your future goals. (This can be submitted through the online application, or mailed in separately.
  5. Letters of reference
     Three (3) letters of reference are required. Letters of reference should come from individuals with whom you have studied and/or under whose immediate supervision you have worked in a professional capacity, or others who you believe are in a position to offer pertinent appraisal of your skills and ability.   6. Official scores from the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL)
    It is strongly recommended that applicants have passed at least the Communications and Literacy Skills (01) test. (Not applicable for students applying to the General Studies, Higher Education or Community Engagement programs.)
  7. A copy of current teaching license(s), if applicable
     A current leaching license is not required for admission into a licensure graduate program. However, if you do hold a current teaching license, we encourage you to include a copy with your application materials. (Not applicable for students applying to the General Studies, Higher Education or Community Engagement programs.)
  8. TOEFL scores (international applicants only)
    The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is designed to measure an applicant’s ability to communicate in English in a college or university setting. The test is currently offered in two forms (Internet-based and paper-based) and Merrimack College School of Education accepts both formats.  An official score report should be submitted with your application materials.
