The Explorations requirements consist of eight Course Requirements:
A. Religious and Theological Studies - Any course at the 1000 level with an attribute of (RTS)
B. Arts and Literature - Any course with an attribute of (AL)
C. Foreign Language - Any course with an attribute of (FL)
D. Historical Studies - Any course with an attribute of (H)
E. Two courses in Social Science disciplines with an attribute of (SOSC)
F. Two courses in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - with an attribute of (STEM)
The Explorations requirements also include one Area Requirement:
G. Cultural Diversity - Any course with an attribute of (D)
For all students, regardless of major, the two courses in Social Science are designed for disciplinary breadth, and must be taken from two different social science disciplines (that is, two different academic departments).
The two courses in STEM can be used either for breadth, or for depth in a STEM field, and therefore can be from a single discipline or from two different disciplines.
Students majoring in Athletic Training, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Exercise Science have slightly adjusted requirements.
In addition to taking the Foundations Requirement of FYW 1050, PHL 1000 and a course with the Ethics (E) attribute, the eight Course Requirements in Explorations are modified as such:
A. Religious and Theological Studies (RTS)
B. Two courses in Social Science disciplines (SOSC)
C. Two courses in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
D. Three courses from the following four categories:
1) Arts and Literature (AL);
2) Foreign Language (FL);
3) Historical Studies (H);
4) A Mathematics course.
The Area Requirement in Explorations (Cultural Diversity) remains the same for these students. The Foundations and Connections requirements are also unchanged.
