Founded in the 1500s by Spanish conquistadores, Buenos Aires has evolved into a thriving, cosmopolitan city with more than 6 million inhabitants within the city limits. Known for its vibrant nightlife, where tango thrives in tangueras, milongas and cultural centers, Buenos Aires offers an array of learning opportunities, cultural events and social attractions. The seat of the national government, Buenos Aires presents a unique opportunity to analyze the politics and history of this complex and fascinating country. Universities, museums, theatres, shopping districts, and restaurants abound in this metropolis, described by many as the Paris of Latin America.

API (Academic Programs International)

Merrimack students study abroad in Buenos Aires through API, a study abroad provider which organizes the program, provides full on-site support, arranges housing, orientation, excursions and more. Merrimack students studying with API in Buenos Aires may study at the Universidad Belgrano, which offers programs in Argentine and Latin American Studies or Intensive Spanish language. Students that are more advanced in Spanish may also select the option to study at the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella which offers a program integrated with Argentine students.

Academics

  • Students take five 3 credit courses
  • Students are required to take a Spanish Language course during their semester in Argentina 
  • Courses are taught in Spanish and English; depending on students level of Spanish they may take all courses in English or a mix of Spanish and English courses
  • It is recommended that Merrimack students complete the Early start option which offers an Intensive Spanish Language course prior to the start of the standard semester

Housing

  • API arranges housing on the behalf of Merrimack students
  • Semester students in Buenos Aires live with local host families

Program Requirements

  • GPA Requirement: 2.75 for Universidad Belgrano track, 3.0 for Universidad Di Tella track
  • Students must be in good disciplinary standing
  • Open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors

Application Requirements

  • All Merrimack students studying abroad for a semester/year are required to meet with the study abroad advisor in the Office of International Programs prior to completing their application.
  • Complete the Preliminary Study Abroad Application; after this application is submitted a study abroad advisor will be in touch to go over the next steps in the application process.
  • Complete online API application; submit official Merrimack College transcript and all necessary documents along with your application.

 Application Deadlines

  • Spring 2015 Semester applications due October 1st
  • Fall 2015 Semester applications due April 1st
