HOPOS: The Journal
Merrimack College is the Editorial home of HOPOS: The Journal of the International Society for the History of Philosophy of Science.
Philosophy Professor Rose-Mary Sargent, Editor-in-Chief, and Jonathan Ravenelle ‘11, Philosophy major and Editorial Assistant, successfully completed work on the inaugural issue of HOPOS that was published May 1, 2011 by the University of Chicago Press.
Volume 2, issue 2 was published October 1, 2012. Ellen Fitzmeyer ‘13 is serving as the Editorial Assistant for the 2012-13 academic year. Volume 3, issue 1, is now in process and will be published May 1, 2013.
The journal serves as a forum for the many members of the International Society for the History of Philosophy of Science, which began at a Philosophy of Science Association meeting in Minneapolis in 1990. A formal launch event took place at the June 2010 HOPOS meeting in Budapest, Hungary.
HOPOS, which appears online and in print, features international, peer-viewed scholarship concerning the history of philosophical discussions about science. HOPOS scholarship is firmly concerned with situating understandings of science within the broader historical and philosophical settings in which they were developed, and against the backdrop of mainstream issues in philosophical thought, covering epistemological, methodological, metaphysical, and moral issues relevant to the growth of our knowledge of the world and human nature.
