Inda Colakhodzic
Inda Colakhodzic
Class of 2010
Political Science Major, Business and French Minor
In 1994, Inda Colakhodzic ’10 moved with her family to the United States from Bosnia to escape the violence of war. Now, Inda is an honors political science major at Merrimack, looking forward to starting a global career.
It won’t be hard for Inda since she is quite worldly already. She has dual citizenship in the US and Bosnia; she speaks three languages: English, Bosnian (Slavic), and French; and she is an avid traveler having touched down in Croatia, Bosnia, Germany, Canada, Aruba, Dominican Republic, to name a few locations.
Most of Inda’s family still lives in Bosnia and last summer she traveled there with her family and spent five weeks occupying the house her father built himself.
She has plans of using that international flair in her future career. “I want to work overseas, hopefully at an embassy. I enjoy studying politics of the US and other foreign nations.” She is currently looking to intern for an international corporation to gain some perspective on a global career.
Inda is the first in her family to attend an American college, where her parents attended college in Bosnia – which Inda defines as “a very different experience.” Now her father owns a local hardwood floor business.
Even though Inda is far away from her birthplace, she feels right at home at Merrimack. “I like the close community, my professors know me by name, and everyone is willing to help with whatever problem you might have.”
But Inda helps plenty of people too working in the Office of Admission, giving tours as a Presidential Ambassador, and serving as a Residential Assistant.
As she supports others, she has witnessed herself growing at Merrimack. “I am much more outgoing, outspoken and confident. I am more willing to seek help and know that I won’t be criticized for it. The Merrimack community has fostered all of that.”
