Jennifer Rando
Class of 2009
Political Science and Criminology Major, History Minor
Jennifer somehow finds time to sleep between serving as president of the Pre-Law Society, president of Merrimack’s Republican Club, and the honor societies for political science, sociology and history. This names just a few of her commitments on campus, but she does it all for the experience of advocating for others.
One of her leadership roles as head delegate for Merrimack’s Model UN Club – a student organization on campus at Merrimack for over 35 years – gives Jennifer an established outlet to test her advocating abilities.
As head delegate, Jennifer leads a team of Merrimack students at an annual Model UN conference organized by Harvard University. “Model UN is an amazing experience - every corner of the world is represented.”
This year, Merrimack is playing the role of Uzbekistan, and as an aspiring lawyer, Jen serves on the legal committee to gain further practice in the arena of law. Her Model UN experience ties in nicely with her internship position working in a local law office assisting with cases and trials.
Continuing her interests as a political science major and advocate, Jennifer also works alongside the chair of the Political Science Department at the Center for Public Opinion Research at Merrimack. “I don’t think I would get to work closely with a department head at any other school.”
Ultimately, all of Jennifer’s academic work and memberships; extracurricular activities and professional experience are preparation for Jennifer’s main goal – to attend law school and seek justice as an attorney. “I like advocating for people who can’t advocate for themselves.”
