Kendrys Vasquez

Class of 2008
Political Science Major

When Kendrys Vasquez arrived in the United States from the Dominican Republic almost ten years ago, he didn’t speak English. Today, he is a graduate of Merrimack College .

Kendrys was everywhere on campus – a senior advisor to the Organizacion Latina de la Amistad (OLA), Representative for the Class Council of 2008, and was named the Outstanding Leader of the Class of 2008 in 2005. He even spoke to high school students about continuing their education.

As an Accept the Challenge student at Merrimack, Kendrys began his work with Merrimack as a sophomore at Lawrence High School (MA). Through mentoring, and after school and summer programs on campus, Kendrys was accepted to Merrimack and enjoyed every minute.

“I have had the opportunity to learn so much from the people around me. At Merrimack there is a great “family” feeling, especially because my family is away.”

Kendrys has grown professionally as well. “During my sophomore year I had the opportunity to intern for former congressman Marty Meehan, and I was a field organizer for the Niki Tsongas Congressional Campaign. At Merrimack, I have had the opportunity to do things I would not have done all by myself.”
