Alpha Kappa Delta - International Sociology Honor Society
The Department of Sociology & Criminology is the Phi chapter (Region I) of Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD), the International Sociology Honor Society. Our chapter was formed in 2006. The eminent sociologist Emory Bogardus founded AKD in 1920. Today, AKD has roughly 500 chartered chapters in seven countries. All of them, including our Department's, share one purpose: "To investigate humanity for the purpose of service."
Dr. DeCesare and Dr. McQueeney are the AKD chapter representatives for the 2011-12 academic year.
Student Association of Sociology
The Student Association of Sociology (SAS) was formed in 1997. Since that time, its purpose has been to build a greater sense of community within the Department of Sociology & Criminology by establishing closer relationships both between faculty and students, and among students who major and minor in Sociology and Criminology. The SAS sponsors students' attendance at academic conferences, community service projects, and social events.
Dr. Aiello is the SAS advisor for the 2011-12 academic year.
