Class of 2009
Visual and Performing Arts Major
Laura Pallone, a visual and fine arts major, is always busy organizing events that advocate for justice in our world
As President of MerrimAction – Merrimack’s volunteer organization, and President of the Justice and Peace Coalition on campus, Laura finds ways to get others involved.
“Merrimack has programs and volunteer opportunities that I never had available to me before,” said Laura. “Some of the teachers and classes I have taken have also encouraged me to seek justice for others.”
As someone very involved in campus ministry, Laura tends to take spiritual paths in helping people. Over her year's at Merrimack, Laura has raised awareness and funds for Nicaraguans who needed water infrastructure, slept out in the cold overnight to support the homeless, and organized a Hike for Hope – an event supporting the fight against cancer; this just names a few.
“You can definitely get more involved at Merrimack,” said Laura. “It has such a comfortable atmosphere.”
Laura attended a Catholic high school and wanted a college that offered that form of education. “Catholicism was always a big part of my life and I wanted to continue that in college. I have grown from the opportunities Merrimack offers and from the people I have met here. Everyone is very welcoming of new ideas and willing to help - this made it easier for me to get involved.”
