Sustainable Merrimack

Welcome to the Home Page for Sustainable Merrimack!  We are vital and growing group of concerned students, staff, administrators, faculty and alumni who are striving to make Merrimack College a more environmentally sustainable institution of higher learning.

Our Projects Page highlights and provides links to some of our ongoing and proposed sustainability projects.  You can read about our campus   Bio-Diesel Project  and our end of the semester Sweeps Week Program.  In addition, you can review the results of a recent   Campus Environmental Audit; the audit can also be downloaded by simply clicking here
We also have a sustainability Meeting and Events Page that highlights sustainability related meetings and events in the Boston and surrounding region.

Our Mission
Environmental sustainability centers on finding ways to use resources that do not undermine the integrity of the environment on which they depend or compromise the ability of future generations to use those same resources. Within the context of Augustinian values, we promote the sustainability of natural resources, stewardship of the environment and service to the community.

To accomplish this we will:

  • Educate   – as a community of teachers and learners, we will educate by developing and supporting College-wide decision-making mechanisms, tools and policies that make Merrimack a model sustainable learning community through innovative teaching, research and outreach initiatives.
  • Collaborate– as a community of teachers and learners, we will collaborate by facilitating cross-disciplinary partnerships through the common ground of sustainability that strengthen the College’s responsiveness to environmental, economic, and cultural challenges.
  • Communicate– as a community of teachers and learners, we will communicate as an open community devoted to the freedom of thought, dedication to dialogue, and collegial respect.
  • Act - as a community of service, we will commit to act upon our gained knowledge of sustainability to build and steward our community for a better today and tomorrow.

We invite all members of our community to learn, teach, work and study in ways guided by their passion, talent, discipline and their service, and in a manner that makes Merrimack College a vibrant community and environmental steward.
