STEEL BRIDGE TEAM

Since 1994 Merrimack has competed in the Student Steel Bridge Competition sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).  The annual competition involves the design and fabrication of a 20-foot long steel bridge that is judged based on a combination of aesthetics, performance, and cost.  The top three finishers from the New England Regional Competition are typically invited to compete in the National Competition.  The team is always looking for creative and motivated individuals to help with design, fabrication, and assembly.

The 2007 team consisted of Joe Tierney (Captain), Paul Greco, John Klipfel, Alan Pepin, and Steven Mallory (all class of ’07).  They achieved a first place finish at the Regional Competition at the University of Connecticut (Storrs) and went on to compete in the National Competition at Cal State, Northridge.

For more details about the Steel Bridge Competition, including a link to this year's rules, go to the AISC webpage.
