Meet Your Major: Electrical Engineering

As an electrical engineering major, you’ll gain an in-depth understanding of everything from microprocessors and communications to electric power and Radio Frequency Identification.

In a collaborative, hands-on environment, you’ll build radar equipment, experiment with microcontrollers and explore many other aspects of electrical engineering. Bonus? Nearly 100 percent of Merrimack’s electrical engineering students find work within two months of graduation — and many commit to jobs before they even graduate.

What You’ll Learn

In the electrical engineering major, you will:

  • Gain the knowledge, skills and expertise to become an outstanding electrical engineer.
  • Explore many concepts including electricity, electronics, electromagnetism, control systems, signal processing and telecommunications.
  • Learn how to design, develop, test and supervise the manufacture of electrical equipment, including, motors, machinery controls, lighting, automobiles, aircraft and navigation systems.
  • Benefit from a solid foundation in calculus, statistics, chemistry, physics and differential equations.
  • Get ample experience building, collaborating and working alongside other students in Merrimack’s state-of-the-art labs.

Hands-on Learning

You’ll have the opportunity to take part in internships and co-ops. It’s your chance to get real-world experience at industry leaders like Raytheon, Fidelity Investments, Phillips Medical and the MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

Career Options

Upon successful completion of the electrical engineering program, you’ll be well-equipped to pursue advanced studies or a career in electrical engineering. Positions may include:
