Congratulations! You applied and have been admitted to Merrimack! Merrimack is home to students from all around the world - 28 countries to be exact!
We are excited that you may be joining the community. Here are some next steps to help you along your college decision process.
The most typical visa for Merrimack students is an F1 Visa. If you will need an F1 Visa to attend Merrimack, you will first receive an I-20 form from Merrimack, and then schedule an appointment with the U.S. Consulate in your country.
Step 1: Deposit
Now that you are admitted, submit a deposit by following the instructions in your admissions letter to secure your spot as a Merrimack student.
Your deposit accepts the offer of admission to Merrimack College and is credited towards your 2016-2017 bill. The deadline for submitting your deposit is noted in your decision letter and is non-refundable after that date.

Step 2. Complete your I-20 requirements
In addition to your deposit, we must have a copy of the following items before an I-20 can be issued:
- copy of your passport
- official, notarized financial documentation. Notarized financial documentation can come from family sources, international scholarship agencies or government sponsors, and should certify that funds are on deposit/available to meet costs for one academic year of study. For the 2016-2017 academic year these costs are $56,315.

To transfer from a U.S. school to Merrimack College
If you’ve already provided these documents to us - thank you! Your I-20 will be generated upon receipt of your deposit.
- please notify your current school of the intent to transfer
- submit a Merrimack College SEVIS Transfer Form
Upon notification your current school will update the student’s record in Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) as a “transfer out” and a release date. After the release date, Merrimack College will complete the transfer of the student’s record in SEVIS and issue a new I-20.
Step 3. We’ll send you your Certificate of Eligibility (I-20)
You will need this to obtain a student visa.
Step 4. Make an appointment with the American Embassy closest to your town referencing the number on your I-20
Step 5. Reach out to your international academic advisor.
Reach out to your international academic counselor, Maura Shaffer, firstname.lastname@example.org. The international student advisor and the Registrar’s staff will register you for your initial semester courses based on your major and Liberal Arts Core Curriculum requirements. You will learn about these requirements at the mandatory international student academic orientation.
