Undergraduate Admission

Kathleen Kilmain

B.A. in History from the University of Mary Washington. I’ve studied abroad at Charles University in the Czech Republic and Lingnan University in Hong Kong.

Favorite place on campus:
The Rogers Center for the Arts is a beautiful space that includes an auditorium, orchestra pit, art gallery and glass enclosed atrium. The theater seats over 600 people and many performances are open to the public!

Fond memory or experience from your undergraduate years:
Studying abroad in Prague was one of the major highlights of my undergraduate years. I made a home among the ancient streets full of beautiful architecture and parks. Across my classroom window sat Prague Castle. When I reflect back on this time, which both challenged and inspired me, I feel incredibly fortunate. This experience opened my eyes to the benefit of experiential learning and I have been a professional advocate ever since.

Tips for high school seniors:
Plan ahead. Create a college application timeline for yourself so you can avoid the stress that comes with procrastination and enjoy your friends and school events.

Last great book you read:
Gone Girl - By Gillian Flynn

Most played song on your ipod:
Safe and Sound by Capital Cities, my most recent running jam.

Where would you like to travel:
I would travel to Ireland to look for distant relatives and take millions of photographs of beautiful landscapes, castles and sheep.

One thing about you that may surprise your colleagues:
I was attacked and bitten by monkeys in Thailand. Several years and rabies shots later, I still loathe monkeys.

One great discovery you’ve made on Merrimack’s campus:
Dunkin Donuts!

What makes Merrimack the place to be:
Merrimack fosters learning by doing. Students are hands on and interact with others, creating a very friendly and encouraging community. Students, faculty and staff are interested in supporting each other, something that is evident even from a simple walk through campus.
