When Ken Taylor left the Navy in 1959, he realized his dream of being the first member of his family to attend college by enrolling at Merrimack College. "I was just like most young people those days," he says, "without a dime or a window to throw it out of, so I knew that in order to get a head in life, it would help a great deal to have a college education."

He stayed in the Reserves and worked part-time to support himself while earing a sociology degree at Merrimack. He thought about teaching, but decided instead to try his luck in the business world, and ended up working at UPS for 32 years before retiring from his job in the Corporate Human Resources Department in Atlanta at the worldwide headquarters.

For more than 20 years, Ken has been giving generously to Merrimack, most notably by supporting the construction of the Marian E. Taylor Chapel of St. Augustine in the Sakowich Campus Center. The chapel is a tribute to Ken's mother.

"It's a cliché, I know, but I give to Merrimack because education is a worthy investment," says Ken. "Merrimack has built some terrific new facilities, but the college isn't about bricks and mortar. Merrimack is about character. The Augustinian principles still prevail at Merrimack, and I'm blessed and proud to have participated in supporting that."
