Welcome to graduate commencement at Merrimack College. The following pages are designed to help you plan a joyous and memorable commencement celebration.

Graduating students may pick up their caps, gowns and tickets on Wednesday, April 26, between 3 and 7 p.m. in Murray Lounge, on the second floor of the Sakowich Campus Center. All students must show a photo ID (Mack Card is preferred) and sign for their tickets. Graduates may not pick up tickets for other students, and tickets will not be mailed. After April 26, items will be available for pickup Monday through Friday in Room 204 of Austin Hall (third floor). The lineup of graduates will begin promptly at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 19, in Hamel Gym at the Merrimack Athletics Complex. Candidates should arrive dressed in cap, gown and hood.
The graduate commencement ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. in Lawler Arena at the Merrimack Athletics Complex, and end around 7:30 p.m. Doors open to guests at 5 p.m. A reception follows the ceremony in Sakowich Campus Center.
A reception will be held in the Sakowich Campus Center immediately following the commencement ceremony (approximately 7:30 p.m.).
Hockmeyer Studios/Essex Commencement Photos has been retained as the official commencement photographer. All students will be photographed as they cross the stage. Soon after the event, Hockmeyer will mail graduates information on how to purchase their photographs. The company may be reached at 978-388-9832.
Where and when should students begin lining up for the procession?
Students should arrive at Hamel Gym in the Merrimack Athletics Complex by 5 p.m.
Where do I return my regalia after the ceremony?
Students should bring their cap, gown and hood to the lobby outside Hamel Gym in the Merrimack Athletics Complex. Don’t forget to remove your alumni pin.
How long does commencement last?
Approximately 90 minutes.
Do small children need a ticket to attend commencement?
A ticket is required for all those over the age of 3. Babies and children under 3 who can sit on an adult’s lap do not need a ticket. Please note: No strollers are allowed into Lawler Arena.
Is there a designated seating area in the arena for those with disabilities?
Yes, a wheelchair-accessible area on the arena floor is available to those with disabilities. The section has been designated wheelchair plus one.
What items are prohibited from being brought into the arena?
For safety reasons and the comfort of all guests, the following items are prohibited from the arena: balloons, wrapped gifts, backpacks, alcohol and strollers. Security will be on hand to enforce this policy.
Where may I meet my family following the ceremony?
Graduates will exit the arena at Schelzi Plaza, behind Dunkin’ Donuts, where they may meet up with their family and friends.
Are there any post-ceremony events?
Yes, a reception will be hosted in the Sakowich Campus Center immediately following the commencement ceremony.
Will professional photographs be taken during the event?
Yes, all students will be photographed as they cross the stage, and an order form for prints will be mailed to your home address on file. The photography company, Hockmeyer Studios/Essex Commencement Photos, may be reached at 978-388-9832.
