Oxford Union Debate co-sponsored with Prof. Allman’s Ethics in the Abrahamic Traditions (RTS2950) and the Honors Program.  Join us for an informative and lively program.

Once called “the last bastion of free speech in the Western world” (Harold Macmillan), the Oxford Union Society was founded in 1823 and is known for its debates.  The debate format is similar to the British House of Commons and is characterized by questions and interruptions from the opposing side and from the audience, as well as heckling and humor, and culminates in a vote where all present exit out doors marked “yea” and “nay” followed by refreshments in the lobby.

Rules for the Oxford Union debates can be found here.
