Tunnel of Oppression

March 1 2013 12:00pm - 5:00pm
Rogers Center for the Arts
The Merrimack community is invited to the Tunel of Oppression, an immersive experience which introduces participants to oppression in its various forms.  The tunnel tours will begin every 30 minutes.  At the end of the tunnel, participants are provided with the opportunity to discuss their experiences with each other and facilitators and reflect on their experience.  Each tour will be approximately 50 minutes.

The Tunnel of Oppression is a campus diversity initiative originally developed at Western Illinois University and is loosely based on the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles.  The tunnel is designed to engage the emotions of participants and provide them with the opportunity to see, touch, hear, and feel the realities of oppression as a step towards creating diversity awareness.  Themes for this year’s tunnel include: classism, sexism, heterosexism, religion, and racism.

RESERVATIONS ARE RECOMMENDED, BUT WALK-INS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME. CONTACT REBECCA AT teixeirar@merrimack.edu.
