New England Classical Singers present “An American Sampler: Songs of Love and Nature”

7:30pm EST March 8, 2014

Rogers Center for the Arts

Come celebrate the rich tradition of 20th century American choral music, featuring Ronald Perera’s Why I Wake Early, a setting of eight selected poems by Pulitzer prize winning poet and American icon Mary Oliver. A resident of Provincetown Massachusetts, Oliver’s poetry is inspired by her observations of nature during her infamous walks in and around Cape Cod.
Perera magically captures the wonder, elegance, and whimsy of Oliver’s poetry in his colorful use of string quartet, piano and chorus.

Also on the program will be works of Aaron Copland, Irving Fine, Robert Stern and Eric Whitacre.
