Festival of Lessons and Carols: A Retelling of the Christmas Story Through Traditional Advent and Christmas Music with the Merrimack Schola. Wednesday. December 4, 2013, 7 pm
Our Mother of Good Counsel Chapel, Austin Hall, Second Floor
Free and open to the public with reception to follow

Join us for Merrimack’s new Advent–Christmas tradition, a Festival of Lessons and Carols, on Wednesday December 4 at 7 pm in Our Mother of Good Counsel Chapel on the second floor of Austin Hall.  The Festival of Lessons and Carols is a liturgy of Scripture (Lessons) and Song (Carols).  Short Bible readings retell the anticipation and birth of Jesus, combined with familiar Christmas carols for everyone to sing, and seasonal choral music sung by the Merrimack Schola. Based on an order drawn up by the Bishop of Truro in Cornwall, England in 1880, Lessons and Carols services have become a tradition at many schools and colleges, inspired by the annual service at King’s College, Cambridge University, in Cambridge, England.
