The New England Classical Singers present Bach Cantata #6: Bleib bei uns and the Vivaldi Gloria: Contrasts in Light and Dark
7:30pm EST March 7, 2015
Rogers Center for the Arts
Pre-concert Lecture at 6:30 p.m.
Please join NECS as it explores themes of light and darkness during Holy Week through the music of German composer Johannes Sebastian Bach and Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi, two musical pillars of the Baroque era. Bleib bei uns, written for Easter Monday, is one of Bach’s most soulful cantatas. Richly woven tapestries of yearning offer solace and hope as the discovery of the empty tomb is pondered. During Lent, the Gloria from the Ordinary of the Mass is omitted, only to re-emerge victoriously on Easter Sunday. Vivaldi’s Gloria vividly embodies this return, contrasting the darkness of the Passion with effervescent splendor while energizing our spirits and enriching our souls. You won’t want to miss this powerful and uplifting musical journey.
