Haiti Service Learning Initiative, January 2014

February 21, 2014
Health Science and Athletic Training students take part in a collaboration with Project Medishare and the people of rural Haiti to increase access to water and health care.

During the Haiti Service Learning Initiative this past January, our athletic trainers and students collaborated with Haitian healthcare workers to host daily health clinics for people with musculoskeletal conditions – evaluated, treated and provided home exercise programs for over 90 people. Additionally, they empowered 20 community health agents with the knowledge to help prevent back pain at work. The civil engineering group collaborated with the Water Committee for the town of Marmont to install filters for pipes in the main water system and advance community efforts in sustaining long term repair efforts on the water system.
