Perfect score! 100% of Finance Students are Bloomberg Certified

April 11, 2014
Forty-nine business students earn credential recognized by business and finance professionals worldwide

All of our senior Finance students (28 students) learned to use and had an opportunity to use Bloomberg Professional in our Mucci Capital Markets Lab this spring and every one of them went on to become Bloomberg Certified. Finance professionals and researchers at the world’s top banks, corporations, and government agencies, over 319,000 subscribers, across 174 countries use the Bloomberg platform to perform research on companies, markets, countries and economies. To become Bloomberg Certified, individuals complete online tutorials and must pass exams in the core and in one of the Market Sectors. The majority of these students became Bloomberg certified in more than two of the four sectors: Fixed Income, Equities, Foreign Exchange, and Commodities. Eleven of the 28 finance students became certified in all four sectors.

Five students not even majoring in finance also stepped to the challenge to get certified prior to graduation. Marketing student Peter Milinazzo decided that selling financial products was what he wanted to pursue as a job and he knew being certified would give him and edge to enter this profession. After talking with Prof. Mary Papazian, Peter worked in the new Mucci Capital Markets Lab with Prof. Papazian and our lab assistants, Shane Simbeck ’14, Matthew Chirokas ’15, and Vincent Belino ’15 to get an introduction to the specialized keyboard and platform. Then, he pursued the Bloomberg Essentials online training program, became certified, added that skill to his resume, and landed a job with Eaton Vance. He attributes the Bloomberg certification as a distinguishing plus when interviewing for the position.

The Mucci Capital Markets Lab, which opened in fall 2013, is creating a buzz in the business school and has already captured the interest of the junior class. More than half of the junior Finance students (16 out of 27) have already earned Bloomberg certification and many pursued this on their own, after hearing about it from others. This experience and knowledge gives students an opportunity to learn about a real-world tool in a real-time environment with hands-on training in capital markets. Bloomberg Certification enhances students’ skill sets and gives them a sought-after credential recognized in the marketplace.
