Future Success Story Part II: Amanda DeMarco
Two years ago, the O’Brien Center for Career Development asked 25 students what they wanted to be when they grew up. Their answers resulted in a campaign showcasing Future Success Captions found lining the walls of the O’Brien Center on the second floor of the Sakowich Campus Center.
This spring, we followed up with these graduates to get a sense of where they landed. Today’s feature story highlights Amanda DeMarco, a May 2013 graduate studying Finance. Amanda’s caption reads “I will be a financial advisor.”
Today, Amanda is a Client Associate at Enterprise Investment Advisors, taking every step to achieve her goal. Amanda’s current position allows her to learn side-by-side Enterprises’s Relationship Managers. Along with her employment at Enterprise Investment Advisors, Amanda is working towards her MBA and Masters in Financial Planning. Once she she completes her schooling, Amanda will be well positioned to pursue a Certified Financial Planner credential. Obtaining this credential will allow Amanda to manage a portfolio of clients as their personal investment advisor.
Amanda’s journey started with her experience at Enterprise Investment Advisors in their Financial Leadership Program. She credits success in her current role to this program because it allowed her to network across the company. “I was able to meet a majority of the 420 employees at the bank. This allows me to know where to go to solve problems, ask questions, or identify cross selling opportunities.”
When asked about her involvement with the O’Brien Center as a Merrimack student, she referenced her participation in the annual Career Fair as the opportunity to meet Enterprise Investment Advisors, her current employer.
Amanda’s advice for current Merrimack students? Highlight your ambition! “It is so important for young job seekers to highlight their ambition and passions in any job interview. I have received a lot of feedback from my current employer regarding my interview process. They were looking for the excitement and energy that today’s college students bring to the workplace. It’s important to be able to get that enthusiasm across to the interviewer in a professional manner.”
