Graduate Civil Engineers Certified in Sustainability

December 18, 2015
Graduate civil engineering students earn sustainability professional credential.

Graduate civil engineering students taking GEN 6032 Sustainable Infrastructure earned a professional credential in addition to graduate credit.  In the course learned about sustainability from the standpoint of a number of sustainability rating systems, including the ENVISION, developed by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (in collaboration with the Zofnass Institute at Harvard Graduate School of Design, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Public Works Association, and the American Council of Engineering Companies).

For the student’s final exam, they took the online credentialing exam and obtained a provisional professional certification, ENV PV, which can be converted to ENV SP (ENVISION Sustainability Professional) one year after graduation upon endorsement by their employer.  The new Merrimack ENVISION certified students include:

Steven Sousa, ENV PV

Mansi Chhatralia, ENV PV

Bowen Xiang, ENV PV

Michael Matthews, ENV PV

The class was developed by Prof. Emeritus, David Westerling, and taught this past fall by Adjunct Lecturer and Program Director, Maureen Sakakeeny, ENV SP.
