New Master’s Features Internship in Dietetics

February 06, 2017
Merrimack College has launched a new graduate professional training and degree program for individuals seeking to become registered dietitians or to further their careers in the health sciences.

The Master of Science-Dietetics Internship program, offered jointly by Merrimack’s department of health sciences and Wellness Workdays, combines a master’s in health science with an accredited internship in dietetics, and can be completed in just one year. The program is ideal for recent bachelor’s degree recipients in dietetics or nutrition as well as those seeking to advance or change careers.

Graduates of the program meet the requirements to sit for the Registered Dietitian exam.

“An exciting aspect of the program is that it is an accelerated and immersive educational experience that combines professional training in nutrition with world-class graduate coursework delivered by top faculty in public health, nutrition science, health promotion, community-health education and exercise science,” said Kyle McInnis, associate dean of health sciences at Merrimack.

Students enrolling in the program will automatically qualify for a fellowship that significantly reduces the cost of tuition and offers unique career-development and personalized advising opportunities.

Candidates must apply and be accepted by both Merrimack College (online application) and Wellness Workdays (application information). The deadline for both applications is Feb. 15.

The internship portion of the program begins in July. Master’s courses begin in the fall at Merrimack College.

Candidates not admitted into the dietetics internship program may still enroll separately into one of Merrimack’s M.S. degree programs in health sciences. Applications for graduate study at Merrimack are accepted on a rolling basis, but the deadline for consideration for one of the many graduate fellowship opportunities is Feb. 10.
