Merrimack College Department of Police Services is Awarded Certification Status

Merrimack College Department of Police Services has successfully passed a two day, stringent assessment of our systems and functions with a view to achieving Certification with the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission. The assessment team will recommend we recieve Certification in May of 2010.We will be one of only three college Police Departments in Massachusetts to attain this level of professionalism, and one of only thirteen Police Departments in the Commonwealth to do so.
Certification is a self-initiated evaluation process whereby departments endeavor to meet and maintain standards that have been established by the profession. These standards encompass areas of police management and operations, and technical support activities such as policy development, emergency response planning, training, communications, property and evidence handling, use of force, vehicular pursuit, prisoner transportation and holding facilities.
Rather than rest on our laurels, we will be moving forward to become Accredited through MPAC. Only 28 Massachusetts Police Departments have reached this level to date.
