Timothy Smith

Class of 2011
Double major: Math and Physics

Timothy Smith, a double major in mathematics and physics, was awarded the prestigious Merrimack Medal at the 2011 Commencement ceremony. The Medal is awarded each year to one graduating senior for outstanding service to the Merrimack College community. Tim took advantage of every opportunity Merrimack had to offer, serving as the Student Government Association (SGA) President during his senior year and being a part of the Student Government during his 4 years at Merrimack.  During his college career Tim also got involved in other Merrimack College clubs and organizations that really helped him “have the best four years of his life.”

“I found Merrimack to be a very welcoming and accommodating environment where you not only have the support from your professors, but the entire faculty and administration staff as well,” said Tim.

In addition to being a representative for the student body on SGA, Tim was involved with:

  • The Onstagers (Theater group)
  • Residence Life
  • Math Team
  • Concert Choir
  • Merrimack College Tour Guide
  • M.O.R.E. Retreats
  • Austin Scholars Program
  • Relay for Life Co-Chair

“There are just so many opportunities at Merrimack,” said Tim. “There is too much going on for people not to get involved. Merrimack just has an aura about it that makes everyone comfortable.”

Currently, Tim is teaching Physics and Mathematics at Central Catholic High School in Lawrence.
