Research Summary

My research examines attitudes and interpersonal experiences related to race, ethnicity and immigration status. Much of my work considers how respondents incorrectly perceive facts about immigrant populations. This ignorance is associated strongly with anti-immigrant attitudes in both Europe and the United States. I have also focused a great deal on the consequences of interpersonal racial discrimination for minority and immigrant adolescents. I find that falling victim is linked to involvement in crime and more negative attitudes toward schooling. Recently, my interests have shifted more toward the topic of immigration. Since 2017, I have offered a Sociology of Immigration course with a study abroad in Germany. It is an exciting opportunity that allows students to observe our course content firsthand as we explore Berlin and Hamburg.
