Graduate Programs

John Cronin

Civil Engineer John Cronin loves his job with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. When it came time to accelerate his career by earning a master’s degree, he looked to Merrimack College. Having attended a large university for his undergraduate degree, John was attracted to Merrimack because of the program’s small class size. “I liked being able to communicate with the professors directly. They were always available whenever I had questions. It’s a refreshing experience to have that individualized attention.”

John completed the Master of Science in Engineering program while working full time, and he credits the professors and the personalized learning environment with making that possible. “It’s a heavy workload, but Merrimack accommodated my busy schedule.”

The program provided many benefits beyond deepening his engineering expertise.  “I not only enhanced my knowledge and increased marketability for the future, through this program, I’ve improved my public speaking and presentation skills.”

After graduation, his hard work paid off quickly. “I was promoted, and believe that having the MSE program on my resume definitely helped separate me from the other candidates. I only have four years of experience, though my new position normally requires between eight and ten.”
